Paul Emmerson
Paul Emmerson was born in 1954 and spent his childhood in London. He did his first degree in Biological Sciences at Lancaster University, and then moved to Manchester after graduation and did an MSc. He lived in Manchester for many years, working as a lecturer in Further Education. During his first few years in Manchester he played the bass guitar in a group called Dislocation Dance, who achieved some fame at the time.
In his mid thirties he moved to Lisbon, Portugal, and worked there as a freelance Business English teacher for six years. On his return to the UK in 1996 he divided his time between writing ELT materials, teaching at International House London, and teacher training all over Europe. He obtained his second Masters (in Applied Linguistics) in 2004 at Kings College London.
In 2008 he got married to a Romanian Business English teacher who he met at a conference in Bucharest, and soon after they moved to Worthing on the south coast where his daughter Anna was born. He continues to spend the majority of his time writing, while also teaching over the summer period at IH London and doing occasional short teacher training events.
