Janice Bland


Janice Bland (PhD) is originally from East London, but has been teaching in Germany for many years. She taught all levels of primary and secondary school English before becoming a teacher educator for student teachers of English language and literature. Janice is currently Visiting Professor and Deputy Chair of TEFL at the University of Muenster, Germany. Visit her page on their website for more information.

Janice's core interests are all connected to creativity in language and literature education in school settings with primary and secondary-school children: creative writing and principled materials development, children's and young adult world literature in English, visual and critical literacy and global issues, teaching with picture books and graphic novels, intercultural learning, drama methodology and the international context for ELT with young learners and teenagers.

Janice has published fairy tales and mini plays for language teaching with young learners. Her most recent research publications are Children's Literature and Learner Empowerment. Children and Teenagers in English Language Education (Bloomsbury Academic, 2013) and Teaching English to Young Learners: Critical Issues in Language Teaching with 3-12 Year Olds (Bloomsbury Academic, 2015). Janice is also co-editor of the peer reviewed open-access journal: Children's Literature in English Language Education.
