Mary Charrington

After graduating from Oxford University with a degree in English Language and Literature, Mary Charrington went on to the School of Education at Bristol University where she gained a PGCE in English and TEFL. Mary then taught English to children in various parts of the world, starting in Japan as part of the Japanese-British Government English Teaching Programme. She further specialised in Teaching EFL to Young Learners at International House, Mataro, Spain.

Teaching English to ever younger children encouraged Mary to start developing and writing her own materials, ensuring that they were always appropriate to the different teaching situations she experienced. After five years commissioning and developing major primary courses at Heinemann ELT, Mary became freelance and has been writing English language materials for Latin America, Europe and The Far East for the past seventeen years. She is the co-author of various courses including Next Stop, Bingo/Eko and Friends, Yoyo/Fun Time  and Peekaboo, and has contributed to Jigsaw, Domino, Faces, M Tunes, Christmas Fun, New Chatterbox and New Sparks.

Mary's writing and editing experience in the field of primary and pre-primary is kept informed by her own three children and her involvement in early years education locally. She loves working with the primary age group, and has a keen interest in how children assimilate language. These two enthusiasms combine well for her work in compiling and writing children's ELT courses
