Meet the authors

Let us introduce you to the Straightforward authors!

Straightforward has been written by a highly experienced team of teachers and authors. Taking a back-to-basics approach to teaching English, this integrated skills course is founded on what good teachers do in the classroom.

Read on to find out more about Lindsay, Philip, Ceri, Jim and Roy - the principal authors of the Straightforward course.

Lindsay Clandfield
Lindsay's writing career with Macmillan began when he won a Lesson Share competition on Onestopenglish.com. Since then, he has been a regular contributor to the Onestopenglish site, and has written components for Macmillan Education courses including Skyline and American Inside Out. Lindsay is the author of the Straightforward Elementary Student's book, and the new Beginner Student's Book which is being launched this year. Ceri Jones
Ceri Jones' first experience of working with Macmillan was on the hugely popular Inside Out and American Inside Out series. She is the co-author of the Straightforward Intermediate and Upper Intermediate course books. Ceri says that writing for the Straightforward series has been a very rewarding and enjoyable experience, but "I'm now looking forward to spending more time in the classroom and less time in front of the computer screen - for a few months at least!". Philip Kerr
Philip Kerr has been working as an ELT writer for Macmillan since 1999, and he has written components for Rising Star, Inside Out, and now Straightforward. Philip is the author of the Straightforward Pre-intermediate Student's Book, and co-author of the Intermediate and Upper Intermediate Student's Book with Ceri Jones. Philip wrote Straightforward because, "I wanted a book that would make my life as a teacher easier" - we certainly hope that it does that for you! Click here to find out more about Philip.

Roy Norris
Roy started writing for Macmillan in 1999, and produced Ready for FCE and Ready for CAE for the Exams series. He is currently working on the Advanced coursebook for the Straightforward series, which will be out at the end of 2007.

Jim Scrivener
Jim Scrivener is an English language teacher and writer who also tutors on initial training, Diploma and specialist teacher development programmes. He is the author of the popular Learning Teaching methodology title, and author of the Straightforward Teacher's Books for all five levels. Jim co-authored the Straightforward Portfolios with Tim Bowen, and you can download great samples of these resources here. To find out more about Jim, including his taste in music, click here!
