Macmillan English Explorers
The Macmillan English Explorers reading programme introduces, teachers and develops essential reading skills and gives continuity at each age level. Each readers contains a balance of whole class teaching, shared reading and individual activities.
With important high frequency words included in the authentic natural language, Macmillan English Explorers will help make children want to read, and encourage reading as a habit.

Macmillan English Explorers use authentic natural language and have been specifically written to help:
- Develop fluency
- Teach phonics
- Build up and extend vocabulary
- Teach correct pronunciation
- Develop word recognition
- Comprehension
- Offer opportunities for writing
The Macmillan Explorers have been written to include important high frequency words (ie words which appear regularly in all reading material). Research has shown how important it is to introduce these words from an early age. The Comprehension and Vocabulary workbooks contain a range of activities to practice reading skills and recycle vocabulary.
Children learn to become better readers, spellers and writers with help from the Phonics workbooks. The activities practise and develop phonic skills and include activities focusing on letter formation and word building. As children learn to accurately pronounce new words, they will become more confident in speaking English.
The Teacher's books provide extensive teacher support and will help minimise your planning time, giving you plenty of new ideas as to how to use this material with your pupils. The Teacher's books include page by page teaching notes showing you how to use the reading books and when to use the Comprehension and Vocabulary books. There's advice on how to teach reading and suggestions for follow-up activities at the end of each story.
