Sharing is Learning - Developing oral literacy through guided and shared reading - Derek Spafford

Oral language skills including vocabulary are a foundational building block in learners’ literacy education, and research tells us that they do not develop naturally – they need to be explicitly and robustly taught. By teaching these skills through a specific reading program, you will build a strong foundation to support not only the development of your learners’ reading comprehension skills, but other key literacy skills too, such as writing.
This session will introduce participants to guided reading. This approach aims to integrate the teaching of reading, vocabulary and oral language into one rich and effective program to help you and your learners achieve more in guided and shared programs. Participants will leave feeling better acquainted with guided reading and be more confident to implement a system into their classroom practice.
